We were up early and in line for tickets to the Royal Alcazar of Seville by 9:15. "The Royal Palace of Seville began as a Moorish palace in the early 1100's when the Almohades gained control of Seville. They embarked on a building frenzy, constructing baths, towers, and a grand palace. In 1364, after the Christians conquest of Spain, King Pedro I commissioned the construction of a new palace on the same site. Over the years other monarchs continued to expand the palace, with various architectural styles quite evident, as well as different styles of garden designs. The top floor of the Alcazar is still actively used by Spain's Royal Family. It is the oldest palace still in use in Europe.
It is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site."
We spent several hours at the Alcazar, exploring the palace and the beautiful gardens,
before walking to the Plaza de Espana. Another beautiful day in Seville!
