We've been ranching for enough years that traditions have developed. This year's day before Branding Day was a traditional day. Papa was ready with Pablo when Colter's family arrived by 6:30 to ride through the nearest pasture one more time. I prepared brunch of sausage breakfast casserole, cheese grits, and fruit and yogurt parfaits. We were eating by 9:30.
Everyone did chores in the afternoon, getting the branding irons ready, food prepped, water in the corral drinkers... By 6:30 in the evening, they gathered at our house again for supper nachos on the patio, hula hooping, and kite flying. It was an early evening, as we'll be up by 4 on Branding Day!
