The ship's captain came on the loud speaker early this afternoon, to inform all passengers that there was a medical emergency on board. He asked the ship's medical team to gather. Papa and I went for tea at 4 pm and heard a helicopter near the ship. We went out on the deck to watch, along with the other passengers. The chopper hovered over the ship, while a Greek Coast Guardsman was lowered to the top deck. Within a few minutes the man with the medical problem was lifted on a stretcher, by rope, into the chopper. Next went his wife, along with the Coast Guardsman, pulled by the rope into the chopper. And then they were off, to the nearest hospital on the Greek mainland.
This was a reminder that we wouldn't want to have a medical emergency in the
middle of the Mediterranean Sea! These things don't just happen in the movies!
