Papa was out the door by 4:15, for this summer's first cattle drive across the ranch. The morning went well, as there were twelve cowboys and girls gently gathering cattle and pushing them east. Madilyn, Colter Lee, and Traven came over in their Ranger to help me prepare lunch. By 11, the cowboys were one ridge from the house. By 11:30, they were at the house and hungry.
We had lunch on the porch on a picture perfect day, with puffy clouds and temps in the 70's. Lunch was pork carnitas, beans and rice, and derby pie for dessert. The horses stood calmly by the fence while everyone ate. And by 12:30, they were off! It was a good day on Winchester Ranch!
