Olympics

Papa and I have been bitten by the Olympics bug and we've watched almost daily over the past two weeks.  We really enjoyed the spectacle of the opening ceremonies.  Even after spending several years of weekends on pool decks watching Claire and Whitney swim, we like to watch swimming competitions.  Claire and Whitney trained several summers at the University of Florida with Greg Troy, the 2012 US swim team coach.  He was always tough but encouraging, and we're happy the US team was so successful.

Gymnastics and diving seem utterly impossible, so those athletes deserve lots of credit for their fearlessness and time spent perfecting their techniques.  Audrey actually played the silver medalist in women's tennis, Maria Sharapova, several times when she was young, so watching the tennis finals was fun and felt personal.  Claire and Whitney ran track and triathlons in high school and college, so we have spent enough time on the sidelines to easily see the natural runners in track.  They are so fast!  Oscar Pistorius was inspiring.  Last night we watched women's beach volleyball.  Gosh, those women have stamina!  The 2012 London Olympics have been a success from our sofa!
