Colcharton Farm

We spent two nights on Colcharton Farm in Devon.  Colin took us on a farm tour yesterday morning.  The farm is about 400 acres, with 300 beef cattle and 600 sheep.  There's a lot packed into a relatively small space as compared to Winchester Ranch!  Colin showed us their operation, from the fields to their barns, where they keep the cattle in winter, and explained how they market their animals. We enjoyed the time with Colin learning about Colcharton Farm!
Then we were off to Buckland Abbey, built in the 1200's and purchased by Sir Francis Drake,
for his home, in the late 1500's.  It was quite remote, with beautiful gardens and rolling hills.  We drove on to Cotehele, the home of the Edgecumbe family from around 1300 to 1946, when the family gave the property to National Trust.  It was so remote that Papa and I spent close to an hour on single track roads with hedges on either side, going round and round, as the signage was nonexistent.  Once there, we had lunch and walked about, exploring the river front, old mill, and the house and gardens.
