Yesterday we drove from Puicheric south to Fort de Salsas, built by the Spaniards at the end
of the 15th century, to guard the frontier between Spain and France. The Fort was captured by the French in 1642, and has remained French since the Treaty of the Pyrenees. The Fort has an
extensive underground, built as stables for over 300 horses.
We drove north from Fort de Salsas to several beach towns, including La Franqui, with very few people out; Peyriac sur Mer, known for its ancient salt production; Bages, a fishing village; Gruissan, known for more recent salt production; and St. Pierre la Mer. The few people out and about
were on bikes or hiking along the sea. It was a beautiful, warm day!
